Can a Christian Have Depression? What does the church say? What does the Bible show us?

What does the church say? What does the Bible tells us? And what can mental health teach us?

Can someone love God, have faith, pray, worship—and still experience depression?

Does struggling with depression mean that your faith isn't strong enough?

Should we simply tell someone who is struggling to pray more?

Can a Christian seek professional mental health support while still trusting completely in God?

These are questions many people inside our churches may have wondered about but have been afraid to ask out loud.

And I believe we need to talk about them.

In an upcoming Love Me Therapy article, we're opening an important conversation about faith, the church, and mental health.

We'll explore Scripture, some of the messages people have heard within Christian communities, and what mental health professionals can help us understand about depression.

But I don't want this conversation to come from only one voice.

I want to hear from pastors.

Church leaders.

Mental health professionals.

And people of faith.

Because perhaps instead of asking:

“Am I depressed because I don't have enough faith?”

we need to begin asking:

“How can we walk alongside someone who is hurting—with faith, wisdom, compassion, and appropriate support?”

Faith and emotional suffering are not conversations we should be afraid to have in the same room.

It's time to make room for both.
